Keeps Wildlife & Pests Out
A sturdy chimney cap installation acts as a physical barrier against birds, squirrels, and raccoons trying to nest inside your chimney flue.
Stops Debris & Leaf Clogs
Catching falling leaves, twigs, and twigs keeps your chimney clear of dangerous blockages that cause heavy smoke buildup in your home.
Blocks Rain & Moisture Damage
Stopping rainwater from pouring directly down your open flue prevents interior rust, rotten dampers, and crumbling mortar.
Prevents Unpleasant Downdrafts
Properly designed caps deflect high winds, preventing cold gusts and fireplace odors from blowing back down into your living room.
Prevents Roof Fires from Sparks
Built-in spark arrestor mesh stops hot embers and sparks from escaping your flue and setting fire to your roof or nearby trees.
Saves Thousands on Internal Repairs
Protecting your flue from weather exposure and animal damage prevents early decay and costly chimney rebuilds down the line.
Chimney cap repair
Chimney Cap Repair in San Antonio, TX
Your chimney cap is the cheapest part of your chimney — and the one that causes the most damage when it fails. A missing, rusted, or undersized cap lets rain pour straight down your flue, invites raccoons and birds to move in, and turns a $400 fix into a $5,000 rebuild. Somri Home Services repairs and replaces chimney caps across San Antonio.
Call 210-296-5076 — we'll tell you straight whether your cap can be saved or needs replacing.

What a Chimney Cap Does
• Keeps rain out. An uncovered flue is an open pipe to the sky. Every storm sends water down into your firebox, damper, and flue liner.
• Keeps animals out. Raccoons, squirrels, and chimney swifts love uncapped chimneys. Once they're in, you're paying for removal plus repairs.
• Keeps sparks in. The mesh sides act as a spark arrestor, catching embers before they land on your roof.
• Keeps debris out. Leaves and twigs clog flues and create draft problems.
Signs Your Chimney Cap Needs Attention
• Rust streaks running down the outside of the chimney
• Water dripping into the firebox when it rains
• You hear animals in the chimney
• The cap is visibly crooked, loose, or missing entirely
• White staining (efflorescence) on the masonry below the cap
• Your fireplace smells musty or damp even in dry weather.

Repair or Replace?
Repair makes sense when the cap is structurally sound — a loose fastener, a bent corner, minor surface rust we can treat and seal.
Replace is the call when the cap is rusted through, the mesh is torn, it's the wrong size for the flue, or it's a builder-grade galvanized cap that's already failing. Most replacements we do are upgrades from cheap galvanized caps to stainless steel that won't rust out again.
We'll show you photos of what we find and give you an honest recommendation — if it can be repaired, we'll say so.

Chase Covers for Prefab Chimneys
If you have a prefab (factory-built) fireplace with a wood chase, you don't have a traditional cap — you have a chase cover, the metal lid on top of the chase. These rust out constantly in San Antonio. We replace them with properly fitted stainless steel chase covers that actually shed water instead of funneling it into your chase.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does chimney cap replacement cost in San Antonio?
It depends on the flue size and material — a basic single-flue stainless cap and a custom multi-flue chase cover are very different jobs. Call 210-296-5076 and we'll give you a straight quote, or start with a $99 inspection if you're not sure what you need.

My chimney leaks when it rains. Is the cap the problem?
Often, yes — a missing or failed cap is the most common leak source we find. But leaks can also come from the crown or flashing, which is why we inspect all three before recommending anything.
What's the best chimney cap material?
Stainless steel. Galvanized caps rust out in a few years in our climate; stainless lasts decades. Copper is premium and lasts even longer if you want the look.

There's an animal in my chimney. Can you help?
Once the animal is out, we install a cap with intact mesh screening so it doesn't happen again. (Live animal removal itself may need a wildlife specialist first — we'll tell you honestly.)

How long does cap replacement take?
Most cap installs take under an hour. Custom chase covers are measured, fabricated, and installed on a follow-up visit.

Do you warranty the work?
Yes — we stand behind every cap and chase cover we install.
